Winery Philipp Lang Freiburg

Philipp Lang

Viniculture in a traditional winegrowing area with the expertise and experience of many generations

In the flourishing Tuniberg region of Baden, winegrowing has been cultivated for hundreds of years.

Passed on by his father and grandfather, Philipp Lang has gathered extensive knowledge and experience about the art of winemaking. Upon completion of his viniculture studies at the university in Geisenheim he added further expertise in state-of-the-art wine-cultivation methods. Almost a decade ago he started to develop his own philosophy about producing wine of highest quality that suits contemporary taste.

Time and patience: In our increasingly fast-moving times these two very important components are needed for successful winemaking

Passion for producing wines of the highest quality and to challenge new ways ensure best possible results. That’s why our wines get all the time they need to mature, sometimes even allowing short breaks in the fermentation process, to proudly present a spectacular wine in spring.

...

Our motto: Precision, continuity and mindfulness

Constant attention is required for the passionate work in our wine cellar. All red wines are matured with long maceration on the mash. As red wines and wood are a perfect match, our reds reach their potential in wooden or barrique barrels.

To give our dessert wines their individual character, we concentrate on achieving the perfect balance of sweetness and acidity.

“Successful winegrowing is not for sprinters, but for friends of the Marathon”

Terroir

Blooming vineyards in best locations with an excellent mild climate

Between the Black Forest and the Vosges mountains, the approx. 100 meter high Tuniberg, rises like an island, overlooking the city of Freiburg. This hilly area is characterized by a mediterranean climate and maritime-atlantic influences, and is one of the warmest and sunniest regions of Germany. For hundreds of years winegrowing has a long tradition and has been passed on from generation to generation.

The majority of our vineyards consist of burgundy grapes, as the Tuniberg region based on limestone soil, covered with deeply layered loess and clay, provides perfect conditions. The terraces, located directly below the Erentrudis Chapel, consist of small plots and profit from a special microclimate.

“The unique Tuniberg region with its special, mild climate is the perfect match for our Burgundy wines.”

Excellent!

Very soon Philipp’s efforts, patience and willingness to take risks were rewarded

Numerous prizes and awards and most of all satisfied customers speak for themselves.

We are excited to be recommended by Eichelmann 2025:

Again, we are happy to be awarded by falstaff 2024:
